Role of Bank Negara Malaysia

Payment system is one of the three pillars of BNM, where BNM plays its role as overseer in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of payment systems infrastructure, and to safeguard the public's interest.

As an overseer, BNM conducts oversight over both large value and retail payment systems. BNM's oversight activities are directed towards ensuring the reliability of the major payment and settlement systems and mitigating risks in these systems.

BNM also facilitates improvements in payment services and market developments through fostering payment innovations and ensuring public confidence in the retail payment systems and the use of payment instruments, as well as steering the national agenda of promoting the migration to electronic payments.
